Pumps for larger feetPumps for larger feetDirector insists you have to wear pumps (those black plimsoles you had to wear for PE at school)? No problem, say the veterans. Just pop along to that nice shoe shop on Oldham Street near Picadilly Gardens. Then lies the problem... They don't make plimsoles that fit size 12 feet. Nooooooo! There is a size 12 plimsole. I bought a pair, if you want them. Trouble is, they are still stupidly small. They really hurt and simply don't do the trick. My trick for sorting them out.. I used a size 11 plimsole - as long as you can get your foot in the front you don't need to worry about getting your heel in. You also need some 2 inch wide black elastic (only about a 2 inch length will do both shoes), some strong nylon thread (not the easily broken cotton stuff usually bought). Basically, cut down the back of the plimsole along the seam. Sew the black elastic to either side of the cut allowing the back of the shoe to expand to fit your foot, but to allow the elastic to still grip it. It's the same colour as the shoe, so can't easily be seen from the audience, and I've never had mine fly off in a kick line, so I guess that's a success! Submitted by Timothy Simmons |
