MUGSS Positions: Lighting Designer

Lighting can be used to evoke a certain mood, indicate time and location, shift emphasis from one part of the stage to another and reinforce the style of the production. Something set in a 1920s jazz club would (almost definitely!) have a very different lighting to something set in space, for example :)

Begin by reading the script, getting a feel for the production and talking to the director. Lighting Designer should also coordinate with costume and set designers - together they create the look of the show. The type/placement of the set may also influence some lighting decisions.
