Plugs and Sockets

10A, 13A, 15A, 16A, 32A, 63A

The are generally used to refer to the different types of plugs & sockets common in theatres. The number refers to the current carrying capacity. The different types are relatively easily differentiated:

  • 10A - Otherwise know as IEC or 'kettle leads', as they are the same as that on the average domestic kettle
  • 13A have square pins and are the usual UK domestic plugs
  • 15A have round pins and are the old style UK domestic plug
  • 16A, 32A and 63A - Also know as CeeForm, these are industrial connectors and so are large. They are generally either violet (24V), yellow (110V), blue (240V) or red (415V / 440V), although other colours do exist.
