GUST

Very much a crew in-joke this one, GUST is an acronym for the "Gratuitous Use of Superfluous Technology" and it was coined in response to things like flying helicopters, robotic sheep and 18 foot wide rain troughs appearing in MUGSS shows. It is a name for anything (in any walk of life) where you have completed a simple job with the maximum of technological excess – like opening a tin of beans using an industrial welding laser for example.

The precise origins are lost (to me at least) in the mists of beer, but it has spread across the MUGSS generations in the same sort of way "hoof" has. No doubt someone will fill in the precise origin at some point, and we'll post it here.

It has been suggested, in a strange cyclic type thing that this website is now a prime example of GUST in the MUGSS world. As webmaster, I don't feel I can coment on this *grin*.
