Meet the Director
It may be hard to believe, looking at him now, but Philip made his G&S debut in a school concert singing the part of Edith in Pirates, more recent roles have, however, been rather lower in pitch! Philip was last involved in a MUGSS production when he sang the role of Old Adam in Ruddygore, in 1973. Since then he has been busy raising a family and pursuing a career, but in recent years he has moved back to Manchester and has been more active on the music scene. His recent G&S roles include Sergeant Meryll, Doctor Daly, Major General Stanley, Lord Mountararat and the Duke of Plaza-Toro, whilst he has also played Don Antonio (Marriage of Figaro), King Balthazar (Amahl and the Night Visitors), Marquis d'Obigny (La Traviata) and God (Noye's Fludde). This last part was a very useful preparation for his move to being a stage director. Philip has directed H.M.S. Pinafore and Iolanthe for Woodley Players, and Nabucco and La Traviata for Bolton Opera 74. |
