WelcomeWelcome to the Manchester Universities Gilbert and Sullivan Society! MUGSS is one of Manchester's longest-running student societies (2011 was our 60th anniversary!) and over the years we have earned a reputation for producing fun, innovative shows at professional venues. What we DoEach year, for its main production, MUGSS performs one of the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. In February 2012 we will be performing a week's run of H.M.S. Pinafore at the 600-seat RNCM Theatre, with a full orchestra. You don't need to audition or have any previous experience to join our cast. We want to give everyone the opportunity to be on stage and can teach you everything you need to know. We only audition for our principal roles.
Uniquely amongst UMSU societies, we have our own stage-crew who also design and make our set, costumes and lighting. Enthusiasm is more important than experience; we will teach you all the skills you need. MUGSS doesn't just do G&S. Our annual 24-hour show is a perfect introduction to musical theatre. Unfortunately you've missed this year's 24-hour show, (there'll be another one next October), but that doesn't mean it's too late to get involved! How to JoinThe easiest way to get involved is to come along to our next rehearsal. We normally meet on Wednesdays from 7:30pm at the University of Manchester Student's Union (South Campus). We don't assume any prior experience so don't worry if you can't read music or you've never performed in a show before. You can find out the exact time and location of our next rehearsal on our diary page View MUGSS Rehearsals in a larger map Want to find out more?Join our mailing list to receive announcements of rehearsals and other MUGSS events, or join our Facebook Group. |
