Welcome to the Manchester Universities Gilbert and Sullivan Society!
MUGSS is one of Manchester's longest-running student societies (2011 was our 60th anniversary!) and over the years we have earned a reputation for producing fun, innovative shows at professional venues.
How to Join
The easiest way to get involved is to come along to our next rehearsal. We meet on Wednesdays from 7:00pm, and our first few rehearsals will be at the University of Manchester Student's Union (South Campus). We don't assume any prior experience so don't worry if you can't read music or you've never performed in a show before. You can find out the exact time and location of our next rehearsal on our diary page
Uniquely amongst UMSU societies, we have our own stage-crew who also design and make our set, costumes and lighting. Enthusiasm is more important than experience; we will teach you all the skills you need. The crew meet at 7.00pm on Wednesdays in the arch.
What we Do
Each year, for its main production, MUGSS performs one of the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. In February 2012 we performed a week's run of H.M.S. Pinafore at the 600-seat RNCM Theatre, with a full orchestra.
You don't need to audition or have any previous experience to join our cast. We want to give everyone the opportunity to be on stage and can teach you everything you need to know. We only audition for our principal roles.
