Tropical Bird Noise |

The Tropical Bird Noise (ie the making of exotic bird call noises around someone who has recently pulled) is yet another in-joke that pre-dates me and many of my society contemporaries. In fact this one isn't even a MUGSS original, since we stole it from Penny Richard's Sister and friends – who were at Leeds Uni when it was invented. I'm told, by one Sarah Boden that the Tropical Bird was "hatched" around October 1993.
Basically it's just a more amusing way of saying "way hay!" next time you meet the people who were snogging at last night's party. (A variation is the singing of the chorus from Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights" in a very extreme soprano – which I believe pre-dates the Tropical Bird noise itself) The original idea for turning the Tropical Bird Noise into a gimmic for the website was Jeremy's, whilst bored and working in Bristol, but he's really only come into his own electronically with his (technically over specified) website. Still, the happy sound of "Wah ah ah!" can be heard all over Manchester to this day, as well as the sound of some other people turning rather red and creeping away. The Tropical Bird was on holiday from 2004 — 2007. I have been promised some sound-clips of the Tropical Bird in action – but nobody has actually recorded them for me yet.... I'll post them when I receive them. |
