Lola the Alto
"Lola the Alto" – a parody of the song Copa Cabana, written and perfomed by Penny Richards and
Isabella Barton at Kirkby 2001.
NB, The line "Tony built things in the bar" was originally "Tony trailed her by a bar", which I think
is funnier, but the authors didn't think anyone would get....
Her name was Lola, she was an alto,
She wandered to the Freshers' Fair,
Paid three pounds without a care.
She would Cachuca and tread the measure,
And while she tried to be a star,
Tony built things in the Bar.
They trod the hallowed boards,
And sang from 10 'til 4,
They were young and had light opera,
Who could ask for more?
chorus:
At the Renold, the Renold Theatre,
The hottest spot north of Chester.
At the Renold, the Renold Theatre,
Music and passion were always in fashion,
At the Renold.... They were in MUGSS.
His name was Peter, he had a baton,
And as he waved it in the air,
He saw Lola dancing there.
And when she finished, he called her over,
But Peter went a bit too far,
Tony had to leave the bar.
And then the crotchets flew,
And scores were ripped in two,
There were tears and recriminations,
But just who shagged who?
chorus
Her name was Lola, she was an alto,
Now that was 30 years ago,
But she still hangs round the show.
And now it's Pirates, but not for Lola,
Still in the T-Shirt from the days
That she slept with Alex Hayes.
Now she's a sad Old Soak,
Who'll sleep with any bloke,
She lost her youth and her inhibitions
For a rum and coke!
