Funniest Man in the World
Yet again, an alcohol related joke. (Have you spotted the trend yet?) The Funniest Man in the World is a term applied to the single drunkest person at any party, gathering or event. (In some cases, at rehearsal too....)
The line was based on the concept that fairly drunk people tend to think that they are much funnier than anyone else, their jokes are better – and in extreme circumstances even that the carpet is hilarious. I think I first heard the phrase used by noted Old Soak (and now Director too) Mr Al King during Yeomen 2001, but it may well date back some time before that. (I lose track, living in London)
Usages I've heard:
- I was the funniest man in the world last night – and I'm suffering today.
- Are you funny yet? Need another drink?
- Try not to let me drink too much – I may well be very funny later....
