The Universe Song

The Universe Song

Adam McNeeney has provided the crew's rendition, originally written by Carol Ferro (nee O'Dea), of Eric Idle's Universe Song from Python's Meaning of Life from the Summer Ball from Gondoliers 2003. No details of who was involved though....

Just remember that you're singing in a chorus that's evolving,
Involving shiny freshers every year.
The men sing Bass and Tenor,
and the women all sing Alto Or Soprano
(They're the ones that you can hear)
The cast take every chance to leap about and have a dance,
Though no-one knows exactly what to do.
So they hang around and fret until they have a proper set,
That's been constructed and erected by the crew.

The crew of MUGSS itself contains two dozen total stars,
Who set the scene in which the show is played,
Some make it, build it, paint it, others light the end result,
And a few of them can even do first aid.
They turn director's ideas into reality,
it seems The costume team worked miracles we'd say.
Although each stitch is only one of millions and billions
in the clothes the actors wore while in the play.

The influence of MUGSS keeps on expanding and expanding,
You've joined MUGSS but you'll find it hard to leave.
MUGSS do jobs and cars and houses, and a party here and there,
You'd be shocked what knowing hoards of rampant Old Soaks can achieve.
So remember when you think that MUGSS has taken all your time,
That at least it gave you somewhere fun to go,
And pray that you've got something on every Thursday night,
'Cos there's bugger all to do 'til next year's show.
